Help & Answers
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you might want to know — from ordering and shipping to custom commissions and design rights.
Orders & Payment
How do I place an order?
Every piece is made to order — we don't hold stock, so each one is crafted for you. For a ready-made design from our collection, add to cart and check out securely on site, and we'll begin crafting it right away. For a fully custom commission, start with a custom inquiry and we'll guide you from concept to delivery. Prefer a personal touch? Message us at @thejeweldude or info@thejeweldude.com.
How do I know my order is confirmed?
You'll receive an email confirmation immediately after checkout with your order number and summary. If it isn't in your inbox within a few minutes, check your spam folder or reach out and we'll resend it.
What payment methods do you accept?
All major credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Shop Pay. Custom commissions can also be arranged via bank transfer. Select financing and installment options may be available at checkout depending on your region.
Can I change or cancel my order after placing it?
Contact us within 24 hours of ordering and we'll do our best to amend or cancel before work begins. Because every piece is made to order, once production has started — and for custom commissions in particular — changes or cancellation may no longer be possible, as materials and work are already committed.
Can I update my shipping or billing address?
Yes, as long as the order hasn't shipped. Email us as soon as possible with your order number and the corrected address. Once a package is in transit we're unable to reroute it.
Shipping & Delivery
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. We ship worldwide via DHL Global Express, fully tracked, with clients in more than 30 countries. Delivery options are shown at checkout based on your destination.
When will my order ship?
Every piece is made to order. Ready-made designs from our collection ship within about two weeks of your order. Fully custom and bespoke pieces ship once production is complete — your timeline is confirmed in your quote and in your order updates.
How long does delivery take?
All orders ship via DHL Global Express, with normal transit times of three to five business days once your piece is dispatched. A tracking link is emailed the moment it leaves us. International transit may add a little time depending on customs.
Is my shipment insured and tracked?
Yes. Every shipment goes via DHL Global Express — tracked end to end and sent signature-required for security. Shipments are insured in transit; many clients prefer a lower declared value to reduce customs duties in their country, so just tell us your preference and we'll arrange the declaration accordingly.
Will I owe customs duties or taxes?
International orders may be subject to import duties or taxes set by your country. These are determined by your local customs authority and are the recipient's responsibility. We're happy to declare a specific shipment value to keep duties reasonable — just let us know before it ships, or reach out if you'd like guidance for your region.
Returns & Exchanges
What is your return policy?
Ready-made, non-personalized designs may be returned within 14 days of delivery in original, unworn condition with all packaging and documentation. Refunds are issued to the original payment method once the piece is received and inspected.
Are custom and engraved pieces returnable?
Fully custom, engraved, and personalized pieces are final sale, as they're created specifically for you — which is why we confirm every detail, including a CAD approval stage, before anything is produced. Ready-made designs from our collection may be returned within 14 days under our standard return policy.
How do I start a return?
Email info@thejeweldude.com with your order number and reason for return. We'll send insured return instructions. Please don't ship anything back without contacting us first.
How long do refunds take?
Once your return is received and inspected, refunds are processed within 3–5 business days. Your bank may take a few additional days to post the credit.
Sizing & Fit
How do I find my ring size?
The most accurate way is a professional sizing at any jeweler. We're also happy to advise — message us and we'll walk you through measuring at home, or help you surprise someone discreetly.
Can my piece be resized?
Most rings can be resized, depending on the setting and design. Your first resize within the first year is handled with care — reach out and we'll arrange it. Certain eternity and full-pavé styles have sizing limitations we'll explain up front.
How do I choose a chain length?
As a guide: 18" sits at the collarbone, 20–22" sits just below, and 24"+ sits lower on the chest for pendants. Tell us how you intend to wear it and we'll recommend the right length and weight.
Materials & Care
What metals do you work in?
Primarily 10K, 14K, and 18K yellow, white, and rose gold. Sterling silver is available for select statement pieces, and platinum is available on request for fine and engagement work. Your metal is confirmed in your order or quote.
Are your diamonds natural or lab-grown?
Both. We offer ethically sourced natural diamonds and high-quality lab-grown stones, along with a full range of colored gemstones. We'll help you choose based on your priorities — size, budget, origin, and brilliance.
Will my gold tarnish or fade?
Solid gold doesn't tarnish. With normal wear and occasional cleaning it keeps its finish for a lifetime — many of our clients wear their pieces every day for years. White gold may be re-rhodium plated over time to refresh its brightness, which we're glad to do.
How should I care for my jewelry?
Clean gently with warm water, mild soap, and a soft brush, then dry with a lint-free cloth. Remove pieces before swimming, working out, or using harsh chemicals. Store separately to avoid scratching. Each piece arrives with a care card.
Warranty & Authenticity
Do your pieces come with a warranty?
Yes — every piece carries a one-year warranty against manufacturer's defects in materials and workmanship. The bigger safeguard is that each piece is built right the first time, to exacting standards and inspected before it ships, so defects are rare to begin with. Damage from accidents, normal wear, or improper care isn't covered, but we offer affordable repair and restoration whenever you need it.
Will I receive certification or authenticity documents?
Yes. Pieces arrive with documentation appropriate to the piece — a certificate of authenticity, and grading reports for center diamonds and significant stones where applicable.
Can I get an appraisal for insurance?
For higher-value and custom pieces we can provide or arrange an appraisal suitable for insuring your jewelry. Let us know at purchase and we'll include the right documentation.
Custom Commissions
How does the custom process work?
Five stages: inquiry & vision, concept & quote, CAD & approval, production, and delivery. You stay involved throughout, and nothing is cast until you approve the design. See the full walkthrough on our Custom Jewelry page.
How long does a custom piece take?
Most take 3–6 weeks from deposit to delivery. More complex work — multi-stone settings, large statement pendants, fully bespoke engagement rings — can take 6–10 weeks. Your timeline is confirmed in your quote. Rush options are available in select cases.
What is the minimum budget for custom work?
Custom work typically starts at $1,500 for statement pieces and $2,500 for fine and engagement work. These are starting points — final pricing depends on metal, stones, complexity, and scope. Nothing moves to production without your approval of a detailed quote.
Do I need to know exactly what I want first?
No. Many of the best pieces start with a vague feeling — a reference image, a word, a material, a moment. The process is collaborative. Share what you have and we'll shape the direction together.
Will I see a CAD before production?
Yes. Every custom piece includes a 3D CAD rendering for your review and approval. You'll see geometry, dimensions, and setting layout in detail, and changes can be requested at this stage. Nothing casts until you sign off.
Can I bring my own stones or materials?
In select cases, yes — when stones are certified, graded, and suitable for setting. Client-supplied materials are handled with full care but accepted at the client's risk, and our standard warranty doesn't cover pre-owned or client-supplied stones. Mention it at inquiry and we'll advise.
What is the deposit and payment structure?
Custom commissions require a 50% deposit to begin, with the balance due before shipping. Deposits are non-refundable once production has commenced, as they cover design, CAD development, and material sourcing already underway.
Design & Exclusivity
Does custom mean exclusive?
Not automatically, and not always. Many custom pieces are so personal — built around someone's identity, iconography, or story — that they'd never be reproduced anyway. This policy mainly addresses reference-based work: when a client brings photos of an existing style as a starting point, we refine that direction and produce something in our own voice, and that refined design may become part of the collection. You own the finished jewelry either way. Exclusive rights to the design are a separate written arrangement made before production.
Why don't I automatically own the design?
It's a natural assumption — you brought the idea and made it real. And in many cases the piece effectively is yours alone; a pendant built around your name or symbolism isn't something we'd replicate. The distinction applies when the starting point is a reference that already exists in the world. We take that reference, add our own creative and technical development, and the resulting design belongs to the designer — just as commissioning a home gives you the house, not the blueprints. Your price covered materials, craftsmanship, and production, not the permanent retirement of a design.
How much does design exclusivity cost?
Exclusivity is priced at 200% of the original quoted price — double the standard commission. This reflects the permanent commercial value transferred: once agreed, the design will never be reproduced, referenced, adapted, or offered again in any form. It must be discussed and contracted before production begins.
Can I add exclusivity after my piece is made?
No. Exclusivity must be agreed in writing before production begins. Once a piece is completed, photographed, or added to the portfolio, retroactive exclusivity isn't available. If it matters to you, raise it at the inquiry stage and we'll build it into the agreement.
